Something old makes something new

This quilt was made using an orphan square in the center. Then adding the red and cream fabric to fill in to the size of the orphaned border. Quilting in the center is 1/4" hexing. 1/2" in the cream with trapunto . And 1/2" in the border. The trpunto design was designed by Karen Phillips-Swhallon. I also added antique orange fabric to the outside border to tie the border to the orange in the center square.

  6. Hi! Thanks for the nice comments! The center block is 42" square I bought it years ago. As I did with the border. It was made by someone and never used. They are both 1850-1860's. Adding other old material to fit the center to the border size. I love the old!

  8. Donna -- I am so happy to have found your blog from a comment of yours on Kate's blog (Empty Field).
I am so excited to have found another person who enjoys using antique/vintage fabrics to make new quilts.

This is a beauty and I am simply blown away by your hand quilting -- it's gorgeous! And the trapunto...I have been too intimidated to even try it.

I'm so happy I found your blog, and I am looking forward to seeing all your beautiful creations.
