What I do when I'm not quilting or collecting Antique Quilts
I am the owner of "Fitly Joined & Built In inc. We do restoration of late 18th and early 19th C buildings and sell materials gto go in any building of this period.
Can I come and play with you!??!!? FUN!!!!~ and lots of HARD work!!! good for you! When I was 12, my father moved us to upstate NY and bought 150+ acres, borderd by all this state land and bought a saw mill. We cut the logs, etc. and built a REAL log cabin. Had an old stone foundation there to begin with, so redid the stone work, before bldg. Cooked on wood stove, totally self sufficient. I thought my life had come to an end... lol I'm so happy I had that experience. We chinked the logs with a mix of cement, sawdust from the mill, straw and I don't know what else. I remember peeling the logs with a flattened out hoe. We canned 800+ qts in a travel trailer that summer while he was bldg it, all grown in our garden. Ugh!~Makes me tired thinking about it, but it was fun. Had every animal imaginable. lol Oh, he cut the shingles himself too. Old stone lined well was there next to the house..
Looks like very interesting work- I love old buildings and am always looking around trying to spot houses with potential!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Donna - what a great and unusual career.
ReplyDeleteHow refreshing to see when I live in a city that tears everything down after only a few years. If I were a building I woulr be long gone.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love those old buildings.
